There are 2 ways in which you can flash a generator with an alternator:
- Connect the battery charger or drill to one of the terminals, then disconnect another cable that is connected to a different terminal for a few seconds. Reconnect both cables, and the generator will start flashing. This should take place automatically. How do Brushless Generators work?

To make a long story short, here’s how it works
- Connect generator to BATT3 (-) and IGN (-). The control box will start flashing.
- Disconnect BATT3 (-). The generator will run.
- Disconnect IGN (-) and reconnect it within 5 minutes (the control box will start flashing again, then wait for it to stop before disconnecting the – terminal). The generator will not start running because there is no battery inserted.
- After 5 minutes, reconnect IGN (-), and the generator will start running.
This is basically how the brushless generators work. The trick here is to disconnect BATT3(-) because a faulty battery can actually cause a short circuit and damage the control box if you simply remove it without making sure that all electrical connections are disconnected. This usually happens to the older generators which don’t have the built-in control box.
